Tips for Communicating Effectively with Your Interior Design Firm

Working with an interior design firm has its many benefits. Once you find the right one to work with, you want the process to go as smooth as possible. This is where communication comes into play. If you can learn how to effectively communicate with your interior designer, you will be looking at a pleasant and efficient experience.

Be Honest & Clear

First, always be honest with what you want to be done and what you expect. This doesn’t apply to just design ideas, this also includes how you communicate. Do you prefer to communicate with your interior design firm in person or by phone? Or maybe you prefer email. It doesn’t matter which way you prefer, as long as you are on the same page with your interior designer. One of the most important things to be honest and clear about is your budget. Always let your interior designer know how much you have to spend and if you can go over budget at all. Also, be clear about the deadlines you want to meet.

Always Communicate Any Changes

Things happen and changes can occur. Always let your interior design firm know right away of any changes. Also, make sure that they are aware they need to alert you of any changes as soon as possible. This could be because of plans, deadlines or even the budget. As long as you let the designer know of the change you want, they will be able to accommodate you and plan accordingly. Remember, if you have any questions or concerns, always ask and address them immediately to prevent a delay in the project.

Other Helpful Tips

At the beginning of each week, encourage your interior designer to send a plan for the week. Also, a weekly summary at the end of the week is helpful to recap what was accomplished. These summaries will ensure that everything is on schedule and gives everyone an idea of what to expect in the coming weeks. It is also helpful to create a checklist. This way, you will know when things are done and nothing will be missed, including minor details.
